Work

I started work on Wednesday, and I like it a lot so far.  There’s not a whole lot to say right now because I’m really just doing some training/orientation stuff and trying to learn as much about my client and what my team is doing as possible.

My boss, my team, and everyone that works there has been super nice and welcoming, which is fun.  It occurs to me that I haven’t started a REAL new job in a really long time, where you have to aclimate yourself to how the company works and who does what.  So that’s fun.

The building I work in is actually a mansion that was built in the 30’s.  It’s pretty incredible.  I get lost most days because there’s so many different nooks and crannies.  There’s also an addition that was put on to house more employees, so that adds to my confusion.  But I’m figuring it out.  It’s a really cool environment to work in.  My desk is in the West Wing of the mansion and I am by the window overlooking the bocci ball court.

On my first day they assigned me a “buddy,” and my buddy Sam was super awesome. She showed me around the maze that is our building, took me to lunch, and gave me a lot of good tips on living in Des Moines.

Last night I went out for drinks with my boss and one of the girls from PR, which was a ton of fun.  We went to a cool dive-y type bar called El Bait Shop that has a ton of different beers on tap, and then to a German bar called Hessen Haus to get a bite to eat.

Next week I think I’ll be starting to work on real projects and stuff, so I’m excited for that.

So there’s your recap in a nutshell.  I know I’ll be working long hours most of the time, but the work should be interesting and the people are all nice, so it won’t be bad.

Yay employment!
