Musings on 2010…
Let’s see how coherent this is… I just got back to my little tiny flat about an hour or so ago, after spending 9 hours on a plane from SEA to LHR, then probably more than an hour on the tube from Heathrow Terminal 5 to King’s Cross. And don’t forget the 10 minutes of hauling 2 bags and a backpack (one pretty damn heavy) up a slight incline to my place. Don’t think I’ll be doing much today!
It seems that tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. I find myself with actual plans for the first time in a couple of years - I’m going to a show at a club in Camden with a friend from class and some of her friends, which should be pretty fun. I do believe I rang in 2010 by closing at the Sehome, and sometime while I was putting together the deposit the clock struck 12. I counted some money and the next thing I knew it was 2010.
This year has been interesting to say the least. I got a “real” job, finally, working as a Promotions Coordinator for the LOVELY Regal Entertainment Group. It was better than working the floor, by far, and I met some awesome people in the process - other PC’s, corporate folk, studio peeps, and radio homies. And I finally got to move away from Bellingham and get a sweeeeet apartment that I actually really miss. Then I realized it wasn’t really the direction I wanted to go, and I applied for a Master’s program in London. (spoiler alert: I got in.)
Turns out applying for this program a lot earlier than my boss was planning on was the best thing I could have done. Because guess what, the company eliminated the promotions coordinator position at the end of July. I got to spend my last month before going off to school living on severance pay, visiting my mom in LA, and generally living it up.
Sweet. So then I moved to London. It was terrifying and amazing and crazy. And I adjusted, made some great friends in class and out of class, and started doing some traveling. It’s an amazing experience, and I don’t feel like I did it much justice while I was at home these past couple of weeks, just since I am so cranky about my school right now and missing all things American.
So that’s my year in a nutshell. I can’t say I’ll be too sad to see it go, but I certainly learned a lot this year.
Now Megan, you ask, how was your time at home? Well, it was awesome. I spent this past Monday in Seattle with my friends Alex, Nora, Mary Beth, and Colin. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory, shopped, saw the Harry Potter exhibit at the Pacific Science Center, ate cupcakes at Cupcake Royale, and did some sweet sweet karaoke. I also got to spend a lot of time with my mom, who was off work the whole time I was home, and I got to spend part of almost every day with my bestie, Alex. I got to sit on my ass and watch tv. I got to see some awesome movies that aren’t out yet in the UK. And oh, did I mention, I ATE A LOT OF FOOD. Fast food, good food, Christmas food… food food food.
It was a lot of fun, and I was surprisingly sad to leave last night.
I’m excited for tomorrow night, and for all the things to come in 2011. I’ll get my MASTER’S in 2011. Hopefully I’ll get some sort of dream JOB in 2011. I’ll do a ton on TRAVELING in 2011. It’s gonna kick ass.
